Lodmoor counrty park : 

Situated a mere 15 minutes walk from the centre of town, the Lodmoor Country Park covers 350 acres of land which features a whole host of attractions and activities for all the family.

Facilities include:

  • Cafe providing refreshments for visitors to the park.
  • The Lodmoor Public House has a large restaurant in addition to catering for lunchtime trade.
  • There is a grassed area specifically suited to outdoor events including car rallies, summer fayres, circus shows or private parties.
  • Picnic tables and barbecue stands available for the public to use throughout the year
  • Public and disabled toilet facilities, open 24 hours a day (all year round) are available to visitors
  • Lodmoor Park is wheelchair accessible and level with some gravel pathways.
  • Car Park (pay and display) for Cars and Coaches
  • Adult Outdoor Green Gym comprising of 21 pieces of cardio fitness, muscle toning and stretching equipment is located at five different stations set around a two km trail of the Country Park.  The equipment is free to use, is suitable for all ages* and fitness levels and no experience is necessary.
    *children and young persons under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

  • A RSPB nature reserve is adjacent to Lodmoor Country Park with observation hides and display boards giving details of the seamarsh birds that visit the reserve. A flat 2.5 km circular walk route around the wildlife area is suitable for wheelchair users.
  • Weymouth Sea Life Center
  • The Rio Grande model railway circles the events area at Lodmoor and is open to visitors throughout the summer season.
  • A 9-hole pitch and putt is open throughout the summer season.
  • A large timber galleon play ship and bird's nest swing.

Sea Life Centre, Weymouth – With penguins, sharks, otters and the rays with discounts available on the Park. Weymouth Sea LifePark & Marine Sanctuary has launched a unique Turtle Sanctuary housing several captive-bred Green sea turtles from the Cayman Islands. Phone 01305 760690

 

 

 

Portland – By the long sweep of Chesil Beach, with magnificent views and Portland Castle http://www.dorsets.co.uk/Portland/  Portland offers a rugged, dramtic / Jurassic coastline and is a haven for bird watchers and nature lovers. Along with diving and rock climbing it is steeped in history. Royal MAnor and Isle of Portland. Castle ruins, coastal and inland paths. Quarries, historic gun batteries, Old Churches.

 

Portland Bill lighthouse : 

Built in 1906 to keep this stretch of the beautiful Dorset coast safe, Portland Bill Lighthouse stands 35m high. Still in working order - though now fully automatic - the Portland Bill Lighthouse can be seen at nights ensuring that no ships run afoul of the rocks. Guided tours of the lighthouse can of course be arranged and during the summer months there is a visitor centre open at the site which houses various displays on the lighthouses, wildlife, shipwrecks and the Portland stone industry which was so essential to the local economy.

A visit to Pulpit Rock, a spectacular rock formation is well advised.

Corfe Castle – Picturesque ruins with great views over the village. Corfe Castle is 1000 years old and is one of the most evocative ruined castles in England. Castle View visitor centre explores the lives (and deaths) of past residents.  http://www.corfecastle.org.uk/

 

Weymouth Harbour – Check out a whole host of watersports on offer

The Nothe Gardens and Fort are also close by and the Nothe Fort is yet another top family attraction. The many displays, the maze of tunnels, the great guns, plus fantastic views from the ramparts provide a memorable visit.

 

Radipole Lake Swannery and RSPB Nature Reserve sits right in the centre of Weymouth, just a few minutes walk from the beach. The unique reserve is one of the most popular in England and many of the birds are exotic visitors from far away.

 

Brewer's Quay - Amid the labyrinth of paved courtyards and cobbled streets and around every corner you will discover arts, crafts and specialist shops.

 

The Timewalk attraction inspired by Weymouth's turbulent past; Brewery Days which explores our brewing heritage; Discovery with a wide range of stimulating experiences plus Weymouth Museum are all worth a visit.
